The Story Behind the Trail Worm
ULTRA ROMANCE Signature Model
The Trail Worm started with a simple question from ULTRA ROMANCE: “What if we made a barefoot shoe?” From there, we dove into the challenge of creating a shoe that truly captures the barefoot experience. Developing the sole alone took countless trials and errors—just thinning it down wasn’t enough. We refined every millimeter of thickness, perfected a tread pattern that hugs the ground, and adjusted the balance with the upper to ensure the fit felt natural. After many prototypes and relentless attention to detail, we’re proud to introduce the Trail Worm—a shoe crafted to be your long-lasting, adventure-ready companion.

My favorite way to interact with the landscape is as minimal as possible. Whether it’s underbiking on a hike heavy ATB route, or trail running through the craggy forests of New England —I prefer to feel every sensation the trail wants to offer me. Sometimes I have to go a little slower, and be more mindful of the trail I am reading, but that heightens the experience, and completely puts me in the moment. I become a trail worm. STOMPLOX designed these barefoot shoes with some help from me (Ronnie), and they are inspired by what I’m talking about above. A wide toe boxed zero heal drop minimal running shoe with a specifically designed sole for adhesion to the rocks and roots. The shoes come with a removable stiff insole allowing them to double as excellent cycling shoes. We did our best to them not look overly sporty so that they blend into the natural environment rather than contrasting — understated with plenty of performance under the laces.

The sole is very thin, and I’m worried my feet might hurt. What should I do?
ABarefoot shoes have thinner soles than regular sneakers, so some initial discomfort is normal. As you continue wearing them, your feet will gradually adjust. We recommend easing into them over a week, wearing them for short periods until you get used to the barefoot feel.

How do I request a sole replacement?
ASimply send your shoes back to STOMPLOX, and we’ll replace the soles and resew the sides to ensure they’re as good as new. (Paid service: pricing is currently under review and will be determined after full production.)

What should I do if the hardware gets damaged?
AYou can send the shoes back to STOMPLOX for repairs, or we can ship the replacement hardware to you. In that case, you can have the repair done at a local shoe repair shop near you.

-Rinse and remove dirt, mud, sand, etc. as soon as possible after use.
-Brush regularly with waterproof gel/wax for nubuck leather.
-Do not dry in direct sunlight. Once a month, take it out to a shady, well-ventilated place to air it out.
-Nubuck and smooth leather parts are natural leather, so please be careful not to let the color transfer to your clothes.
-Shoes that have been used in such a way as to cause excessive damage are not covered by this warranty.
-Excessive use at high temperatures or in freezing temperatures is not covered.
-The adhesive on the sole may peel off if the shoes are left in high temperatures or walked on in water, etc.
-We will not refund or exchange shoes that do not meet the above criteria.
